Associate Professor and researcher at Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), Agribusiness Graduate Program and Natural Resources Management and Production Technologies Master´s Program. Prof. Brenes has a PhD degree in International Cooperation and Sustainable Development from the Agriculture, Environmental, and Food Science and Technology Programme of the University of Bologna (UNIBO). She has acted as research fellow, thesis supervisor and speaker in seminars, workshops and Winter/Summer Schools at TEC, UNIBO and other academic institutions in Costa Rica and LatinAmerica. She currently coordinates the Agroindustry Research Center at TEC and the Costa Rican Food Loss and Waste (FLW) Network. She is also an member of the Latin American and Caribbean FLW Network of Experts, and a former contributor to the Global Advisory Panel of the FLW Code of Conduct published by FAO
