Businesses are leading the way to Zero Waste all over the world. There are thousands of businesses that have reported that they have diverted more than 90% of their wastes from landfills and incinerators. In 2012, in response to requests from businesses around the world, ZWIA developed a Zero Waste Business Recognition Program to confirm those businesses have accomplished what they say they have. This program is implemented by National Affiliates. When these National Affiliates recognize businesses as meeting the ZWIA Zero Waste Business Recognition Program guidelines, they are asked to submit a summary of those accomplishments for the ZWIA website.
The first businesses officially recognized by the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council, which works with the GrassRoots Recycling Network, and by the Canadian National Affiliate are listed below. Other businesses are in the process of being recognized by the National Affiliate in Brazil.
These are posted here to inspire other businesses to become recognized or certified according to the ZWIA Definition of Zero Waste and the ZWIA Zero Waste Business Principles. For more information on this program, contact ZWBizRecognition@zwia.org.
