Case Studies

Businesses are leading the way to Zero Waste all over the world.  There are thousands of businesses that have reported that they have diverted more than 90% of their wastes from landfills and incinerators.  In 2012, in response to requests from businesses around the world, ZWIA developed a Zero Waste Business Recognition Program to confirm those businesses have accomplished what they say they have.  That program is implemented by National Affiliates.  When those National Affiliates recognize businesses as meeting the ZWIA Zero Waste Business Recognition Program guidelines, they are asked to post a summary of those accomplishments on the ZWIA website.

The first businesses officially recognized in this way are listed below.  These are businesses that have  been certified as Zero Waste by the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council (www.uszwbc.org), which works with the GrassRoots Recycling Network (www.grrn.org), which is the ZWIA National Affiliate in the U.S. Other businesses are also in the process of being recognized by National Affiliates in Brazil and Canada.

These are posted here to inspire other businesses to be recognized or certified according to the ZWIA Definition of Zero Waste and the ZWIA Zero Waste Business Principles.  For more info on this program, contact ZWBizRecognition@zwia.org.
